Dear Editor Beeb,

The 9-11 attack on America seems to have shocked everybody. The mass media news-loops have informed us that the "cowards" behind the attack were terrorists from the Middle East. Osama Bin Laden has claimed that he did not order the attack, yet the corporate media has already signed his death warrant and possibly for countless thousands of other human beings whose only crime is that they are of a race and live within a border that is associated with terrorism.

Nobody seems to want to know the reasons behind the attack. A nuclear or biological attack would have been much more effective, yet instead, the targets were symbols of American military and economic power. Sure, America stands for freedom--freedom for those who live within its borders. There are people in the third world that are being oppressed by capitalistic exploitation, American imperialism, and violent military force. They suffer from poverty and hunger. They haven't been left many options.

So who are the real terrorists? Clinton unjustly bombed a pharmaceutical factory in Sudan, killing innocent, famine-stricken people who needed medicines. The US backed UN sanctions against Iraq have killed half a million children. Madeleine Albright justified those deaths with, "We think the price is worth it."

There should be an end all terrorism, whether it's in the name of religious fanaticism or American big business dollars.

Now we're having an increase in security in order to prevent terrorism. This is no solution--this is attacking a side effect of the real problem. This is checking to make sure that the kid who gets picked on isn't bringing a gun to school. What we need to do is help these people, not kill them, and not oppress them.

The tragedy is also being used as an excuse limit freedoms at home. If--as President Bush said--America is the brightest beacon for freedom in the world, it must be a very dim world.

Loving You Too,
Thor Andersen
